Governor Opportunities

The Trust has exciting and rewarding opportunities for you to join a local governing body at a MET school in your community.

As a multi-academy trust, our local governance structure differs to that of a maintained school with a Governing Board. However, the MET takes pride in the high level of autonomy and uniqueness of each of its schools and the important role they play in their local communities. We recognise the value of our local governing bodies and their crucial role in the continuous drive to improve standards.

We are looking for community members to join our local governing bodies. Applicants will have a genuine interest in school governance, ensuring they keep up to date with current educational developments and legislation affecting schools.

As a member of a MET local governing body, you will help plan the strategic direction of the school by setting the values, aims and objectives. The local governing body is the school’s accountable body and is responsible for the conduct of the school and for promoting high standards.

The work of the local governing body will include:

  • Determining the school improvement strategy which includes approving the budget and agreeing the staffing structure
  • Monitoring and evaluating the progress the school is making towards achievement of its aims and objectives
  • Planning the strategic direction of the school by setting the values, aims and objectives for the school

Expertise that will contribute to effective governance includes:

  • Legal
  • Finance
  • Marketing
  • HR
  • IT
  • Education
  • Strategic Planning
  • Project Management
  • Governance
