Lucy Floyer

Deputy Director of Education

After 16 years in teaching, seven of them on the leadership group at an outstanding school, and two as an independent consultant, trainer and coach, I am able to utilise my experience and skills to make a significant improvement to the performance and outcomes of other teachers. I am an outstanding teacher with a consistent track record of raising the attainment of target groups and whilst working as a Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for English, I improved the department's A* to C GCSE English results by 28% in three years.

My other leadership roles have included three years as Associate Deputy Headteacher with responsibility for the Training School. I was responsible for the organisation, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of whole school CPD, external and internal INSET and training programmes including ITT, PGCE, Teach First, OTT and NQT induction years. During my leadership 95% of trainees improved the quality of their teaching by at least one OFSTED grade in their first year and 98% of internal staff training was rated ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ by staff.

I also set up and led a primary bulge unit for the local authority, overseeing staffing, resourcing, curriculum, policies and procedures, behaviour, attendance and child protection. At the end of the Reception year, 78% of pupils achieved the ‘good progress indicators’ for the Early Years framework (compared to 41% in the government pilot) and 81% of pupils achieved good levels in Numeracy and Literacy. This was despite a late start to the academic year (the unit opened in November) and over 50% of pupils starting school well below expected levels for their age.

In addition, I am an experienced and successful mentor and coach. I have had extensive experience and training in both disciplines, including acting as a coach for participants on the Leading from the Middle and Teaching Leaders programmes, and coaching colleagues on a variety of internal programmes, including coaching training for a local primary school.

I am particularly interested in methods of improving the chances of educational success for disadvantaged groups with a focus on effective whole school literacy, and improving teaching and leadership at all levels.
