Richard Elms

Chief Executive Officer and Trustee

Richard became the Chief Executive of the Meller Educational Trust in August 2016. A Physics graduate, with a Master’s Degree in Educational Management, his teaching career was based in and around West London and Surrey.  From his early days of headship, he has been involved as a consultant for the Department for Education (DfE), local authorities and other schools.  His work, as a consultant, centred on school improvement and the appointment and performance management of heads and senior leaders. Richard was a Headteacher of several secondary schools; his last school was an 11-18, comprehensive school with nearly 1800 students.  The school was a specialist Mathematics and Computing College and a Teaching School.

Richard worked on the DfE Academies Programme as an Education Adviser and Project Lead. He also worked with Education London (EL) as a Senior Adviser on London Challenge, which is widely regarded as the most successful school improvement programme.  EL set up the Russell Education Trust (RET) to establish and run schools as part of the Free Schools programme; Richard was the Project Director for establishing the Trust and for successfully applying to set up and then run five large, 11-18 secondary Free Schools.

Richard is committed to delivering the aims of the Meller Educational Trust and passionately believes that every young person should be given the opportunity to aim high to achieve the very best they can.
